These pseudo-mashups expand Elverum’s vision to a Cinerama-like depth of field with the picture beautifully warping around the edges.
Ultimately, Pre-Human Ideas is less a testament to the untapped power of Auto-Tune than further testament to the genius of Elverum himself.
On a very basic level Pre-Human Ideas may appear to be the work of an artist diving headfirst into insanity. But at its core the album is one of the most personal and engaging releases of Mount Eerie’s career.
Pre-Human Ideas is a step toward breaking the barrier between disparate environments—mountains and websites—all by creating something using a simple computer program.
There is a somewhat disconcerting beauty to some of Pre-Human Ideas’ songs.
In the art of trolling, I give this a 100.
Ah Phil Elvrum... Always with a mind elsewhere, ready to release albums when you're not expecting it (two superb albums in 2012 anyway) or where you're not expecting it (furious folk, peaceful lo-fi, saturated ocean, lunar fullness; where next colombus?). Once again, who could have predicted that the man behind the Microphones and Mount Eerie would cover his own songs using only the Garage-Band software as instruments and the auto-tune?

Definitely embodying On4word’s N64 sampling technique. It’s not as charming as it could be but it’s definitely unique.
If you didn't know I'm trying to work my way through all of Phil's albums and I saw this was the worst-rated full LP. If it is the worst album then Phil is incredibly consistent. If his worst is only 'ok' and he has like 30 albums out that's fucking impressive
