For the bulk of Californication, the Peppers sound more relaxed, less grating, and, in their own way, more introspective than ever before.
They’ve settled down and written a whole album’s worth of tunes that tickle the ear, romance the booty, swell the heart, moisten the tear ducts and dilate the third eye.
The Chili Peppers are the closest thing we have to a Led Zepplin today. If you want quality, commercial, Jeep- stereo, headphone, stadium- filling, champion Rock that you can get behind, where else are you going to turn?
They’ve never lost their knack for making everything sound like a gleefully sticky schoolyard euphemism, for revelling in the leering testosterone and goateed bass that stalks the world of nightmare.
I swear they say the word California in every song, it's actually insane. Also, Otherside is one of the greatest songs of all time
This album had the potential to be absolutely incredible but shot itself in its foot
REVIEW REPOST #090. I repost my old reviews, which got no attention, with updated thoughts. Posted this review 1.5 years ago, but I'm posting it again.
Look, I was never a big fan of Red Hot, despite the Can't Stop riff being one of the first that I learned on guitar. The ... read more

Although it's not the Red Hot's best album in terms of impact and musical innovation (although that's debatable in the end), Californication remains my favourite album and the one I enjoy listening to again. In a context where Red Hot are skating a few years after a more disappointing One Hot ... read more
There are some great songs on this album. But the production is a little bit questionable at times
All around the world... but over half the locations are in America...
That being said this album was a huge part of my childhood and the first half of this album is banger after banger.
The second half is not as strong, but still enjoyable!
Fav Track: Otherside (Get on Top is also very underrated)
Least Fav Track: I Like Dirt
istg if the album didn't clip every 2 seconds it would be a 120, and i'm not even joking. This is the chili peppers at their most versatile and emotional, and they made some of the best songs of all time out of it.
