However, for a band still very much in its infancy, Sports is an astonishing body of work far beyond any kind of expectation you'd put at its creators' feet.
The record is everything that a lot of modern indie rock is frequently failing to be in 2010: loud, immediate, and engaging, with a strong melodic sense of songwriting to tie it all together.
It's as if the lyrics are the most important piece to their sound, yet they're splattered and skewed like a Pollock painting.
Yet the band lacks the skill of My Bloody Valentine and the brazenness of Jesus and Mary Chain, ultimately rendering their music faceless amongst the sea of competitors trawling the same waters.
