A finely crafted patchwork of ideas that constantly keeps the listener guessing.
S/T is at its best when it capitalizes on the sort of gorgeously layered, acid-damaged psych-pop this group has excelled at since 2005.
Organic and jubilant, it successfully weaves psych, world, rock, and folk traditions into something new and endlessly compelling.
As always, Akron/Family is fascinated with many genres and never entirely loyal to any.
It's to the band's credit that shifting from psych-folk burlesque to thoughtful but approachable avant-pop feels more like a change of clothes than a change of heart.
A re-debut of a band that blatantly refuses to contain their creativity and innovation.
