Both a likely contender for the finest indie rock record of the year, then, and a breathtakingly chaotic venture far beyond that genre’s remit.
If I Am Very Far frustrates with its lack of clear intentions, it also fascinates for the same reason.
I Am Very Far manages to put Sheff's lyrics and the band's music on equal footing.
This release sees Sheff withdrawing ever so slightly and delivering an album which is considerably more opaque than previous outings.
I Am Very Far is Okkervil River’s longest effort to date (by a mere few minutes) and it feels like it.
