It's a triumph of novelty meeting execution, and the best moments here are when they go the furthest lengths not to repeat themselves.
Two-Way Mirror is a good but flawed album, with plenty of things to excite, but a few things that can disappoint.
Crystal Antlers have delivered a record that, rather than making good on the promise of their early work, is simply serviceable.
Their music can be tiring, their unwavering high-treble attack can be homogenous, and the schizophrenic shifts in aesthetic are, at best, pretentious, and at worst, needless kitsch.
They’re a band that still sounds like they’re trying to find their footing, and it's taking them a while to do it.
The messy trajectory of Two-Way Mirror requires serious tolerance for walls of noise to endure from start to finish.
