It’s certainly a far more engaging album than anyone could have reasonably expected.
The album is an above average collection for a band well past their expected use-by date.
What hurts I’m With You is what has plagued the last few Chili Peppers releases: Kiedis’ vocal tones.
Despite the glimmers of hope, I’m With You is mostly just really, really bland.
I'm With You's hip thrusts and gyrations simply go through the motions, the work of a band with all kinds of capital to blow but no incentive to do anything differently.
Creatively, this is a band in a terminal, unrecoverable spiral-dive.
After a more miss than hit double album you'd have been forgiven for perhaps anticipating most long in the tooth bands would hang up their guitars - the Chili Peppers fly in the face of such logic.
No, instead they dug deep and five years later returned with 'I'm With You', a concept album about a fly that fills its days helping people remember which pills they're due to take. What a hero.
Eh, sadly that was a fabrication - in reality they returned with a totally forgettable album that also ... read more

A very weird period for the band. It simultaneously has some of their most underrated but also forgettable songs of their entire discog. I do not remember a SINGLE note of Happiness Loves Company.
Surprisingly enough I've never been that fond of the big hit of the record, The Adventures Of Rain Dance Maggie. Certainly a good track in my opinion, and one of the most memorable of the LP, but I've always been more about the other 3 singles, especially Brendan's Death Song jesus CHRIST that song ... read more
Okay, I think this is the point where they start to go downhill again. I will say, that it's still a heck of a lot easier to deal with an album like this than one like the debut. There is quality here, and even songs I don't like people still seem to like it. I enjoy exactly half of the tracks, yet the quality of them isn't really that mind-blowing for the most part. A bit below mid, a pretty weak album overall. A lot like what I'm sure happened to that fly after they took that photo. I'm so ... read more
