Supergroups rarely have any business sounding this good.
Considering the personnel involved, it’s no surprise Wild Flag works as well as it does, or that it picks up in a familiar place.
They’re not reinventing the wheel, hell they’re barely even reinventing themselves, but that’s a good thing on this occasion
The band rarely sacrifices the rock'n'roll fun-- they no doubt deliver that elusive black-and-blue, but it's a hit that feels like a kiss.
It’s then both entirely strange and equally unsurprising that Wild Flag feels nothing like a typical first record.
Whether you come to this album fresh, or as a former fan of some other bands the members used to be in, Wild Flag offers a lot to the listener.
What we have here is an album leaner than a quality steak and with enough sass and bravado to make the likes of Joan Jett and Kate Jackson look like submissive wallflower housewife types.
