Unknown Mortal Orchestra has produced the rare indie pop record that seizes you on the first listen but also rewards repeated playing.
UMO manages a unique immersive and psychedelic quality without relying on the usual array of bong-ripping effects.
Their songs offer a relaxing escape that’s perfect for the summer.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra is likely to have a rather select appeal among audiences that appreciate the colorfully obscure.
Very unimaginative. Just very lackluster grooves and singing that just leaves me not paying attention because I forget I am listening to it. It is not unpleasant to listen too, just nothing special with this one. This can also get very repetitive in the bad way on most of the songs.
It was quite a decent debut album from of the biggest neo-psychedelic act of the decade, but it was nowhere near the quality they would get to deliver, particularly with that quite rough mix.
It’s a weird ass psych rock album, and it has some really quirky guitar work that I love a lot, but as a rounded project, a lot of the songs feel rushed and unfinished leading this album to feeling a bit too short. Still got some great moments though.
Standout: Thought Ballune
Favs: Funny Ffriends, How can you luv me, Nerve Damage!
Least fav: Jello and Juggernauts
my uncle got me this on vinyl, not bad, but i think there’s a lot of room for improvement.
a mix of jack stauber and tame impala brings to life an oddball yet often hit or miss debut for UMO
It's a decent, sometimes boring..
Comparing this to their later work really makes this even more lackluster.
