The bruised, bottomless beauty of Days suggests that growing up hasn’t always been easy for Real Estate.
This focus on musicality over atmosphere allows for a solid set of pop-rock songs that succeeds on its own melodic merits.
Cleaner, sharper, and just plain stronger, Days is like a single idea divided into simple statements
What makes this band such an attractive late summer proposition is their tunefulness, their sunny outlook, their sheer positivity.
The air of careful conception surrounding Days is one of its most unmistakable and undeniable characteristics.
The sound might be crisper, but ultimately on Days, the song remains the same.
Days merely sheds doubt on the their capacity, or will, to push beyond their prism of easy-riding familiarity.
There is very little to back up a claim of true musical growth, but it’s something of a start.
