Much of Constant Bop's charm is how it captures an overall sense of fun without resorting to novelty or irony. Petralli's skills as writer, player, and especially producer allow him to explore freely while still delivering something that is totally engaging.
Retro it may be but it’s refreshing to see an artist shrugging his usual creative straightjacket and while its title still makes us wince Constant Bop is a fine album.
Sure, it's got its infectious melodies and its straight forward Brit Pop-rock persona... But, I'm not sure why so many (critics) are raving about this rather ordinary sounding pop-rock release. It's not as if Petralli invented a new style! And this retro label. Sheesh! I gave it the rating I did due to the production values and overall consistency.
