Taken as a whole, The Republic is a heady yet enjoyable collection of electronic sounds that retains the graceful beauty Prekop has breathed into all of his creations, just with a slightly different approach.
There is an almost plant-like sensation in relation to The Republic’s gradual charm. Given time, these transmissions work on a person like a vast overgrowth, subsuming one’s fastidious human preoccupations.
The Republic may not be an album that will make headlines but it shows a musician immersed in his art achieving a real consistency and equilibrium of sound.
Prekop’s touch brings warmth to pulsating Vangelis-style environments, as if reimagining the soundtrack to a Blade Runner set in a future where things are generally okay.
On The Republic, his fourth, Prekop has again strayed from the script, releasing another batch of noisy tone poems.
Although it may sound like a record with two contrasting sides The Republic does actually make sense as an album.
