A city by the Light Divided was Thusdays most mature take in their career. Shifting from raw emotion to powerful drive, song structure, and subtle production sensibilities. The album was pretty ahead of it's time showing a maturity in the genre that most would mot achieve until the later era's of post hardcore in the mid 2010's with the likes of Touche Amore and La Dispute... 3rd wave or whatever we would call that...

Maybe not the Thursday album I wanted when I was 18, but it's certainly one I can appreciate now. A City By the Light Divided is best celebrated for the total sum of its parts, creating a glossy dreamscape that's well complimented by Thursday's melodramatic flair. This is peak high-brow emo if such a thing exists.
