In about every way that it possibly could, Miike Snow’s second album, Happy to You, improves on its predecessor
Happy To You is Miike Snow squared - the same mix of insights vs. bongo drops but now with gentler electronics, like Hot Chip wearing wooly jumpers.
The hooks are buried. The beats wash in and out. Happy feels like it was meant to go outside and play, but changed its mind and climbed back under the covers instead.
Happy To You is a solid if unspectacular second effort, one that disperses moments of brilliance with the occasional filler track.
Happy to You, however, doesn't boast such glaringly obvious singles as "Animal." Instead, the album is a whole, steady listen.
There seem to be no production tricks in the book that can save the disc from Wyatt’s complete lack of presence as a vocalist.
That sort of unity of vision, though, where the sound matches the idea and the idea matches the delivery, is still rare with this band.
