Slightly more tempered than their early thug-punk outings, their fourth album adds a splash of post-punk to the band’s tight-drilled grind.
In just two years, Ceremony has leaped aggressively forward in its evolution, and Zoo captures this over 12 tracks that reconfigure the group into something unique and vital.
It’s a serious progression for a young band that isn’t afraid to switch their style up and has the talent to make different things work.
Hardcore bands rarely age gracefully, but Ceremony’s found a way to accentuate its broadest influences without losing touch with its younger, rowdier days.
There's not much on Zoo that you won't find on dozens of garage-rock albums released by smaller labels this year.
Zoo places Ceremony in that middling class of medium-achievers, where “good enough” is a goal, not a baseline of expectation.
