For the most part, it’s a confident debut album, one that is jam-packed with raucous, ready-made hits.

A.V. Club

America Give Up is about woo-oo-oo choruses and fuzz-laden, spiky guitar chords, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

The 405

America Give Up is a bona fide rock 'n' roll album with more energy than a Duracell bunny with ADHD.

70
PopMatters

32 minutes of snotty, bratty, loud, potty-mouthed rock ‘n’ roll.

60
Pitchfork

America Give Up is inconsistent and derivative yet promising, and not nearly as impressive as some early adopters would have people believe

No Ripcord

While Howler is not going to change our idea of what music can sound like, they are not a guilty pleasure band either.

Drowned in Sound

Catchy, bratty and phenomenally uninspiring, America Give Up is not so much shouting from the rooftops as howling at the moon.

America Give Up is a snarky, slacker-infused, PG13-rated outing of The Beach Boys. Jordan Gatesmith's voice crossovers well with garage and surf, which admittedly, isn't too different, but his baritone does help carry the album's straddling genres. Among all the snark, college humor goofiness, it makes for an album to listen to on the beach if you're that guy in the group that isn't afraid to be smug.
