There’s a awe-inducing majesty to the moments when all the subtly introduced parts coalesce and then ebb away but there’s also a sense of feeling completely lost
Blondes' debut album is great on first listen, but it takes on a whole different life when you listen more closely and let your brain follow behind.
You'd be better off just going with it, admitting that you're probably not going to find another record quite so beautifully produced this year, or quite so warmly inviting, or just quite so full of lovely stuff.
Blondes is an impressive journey, one that you may wish to take numerous times
Their songs are simply well produced, as pleasurable on a pure sonic level as they are practical.
This is headphone music, best consumed when the listener has time to peel the onion and examine the artistic approach.
They’re too contemplative to be a full-on club outfit, but their sound is too insistent to function as mere background music.
Blondes need to hone themselves—become harder, better, faster, stronger—if they wish to become memorable
Take any of these tracks on its own, or even as half of a single, and it is impressive and striking. Listen to seven of them in succession, though, and you slowly notice they all sort of blur together.
