There’s No Leaving Now is a compelling listen from a songwriter whose default setting is extraordinary.
While still rooted in Dylan’s folk aesthetic, the music Matsson writes now is uniquely his voice.
There’s No Leaving Now makes use of much the same map work laid out by Matsson on 2010’s fantastic breakout The Wild Hunt.
There’s No Leaving Now feels a bit like treading water.
Overall, There's No Leaving Now is a cohesive, wonderful album.
While its good to hear his sound evolving, the results are mixed.
There’s No Leaving Now settles too readily into a single slumberous mood.
This is an agreeable record, but it comes from a man who we know is capable of something sublime.
What the third album from this Swedish singer-songwriter loses in production value and originality it makes up for in spades in consistently brilliant folk melodies and lyricism and heart wrenching performances. Another great album from one of my favorite folk acts.
While the second half somewhat ruins the flow of the album, each song on this thing is driven by some beautiful imagery and a powerfully emotive voice.
A really solid singer/songwriter LP, with emotionally impactful melodies and instrumentation mixed throughout.
