No Life for Me may not be a masterpiece, but it does offer a wobbly, hazy shape of a certain kind of punk to come.
Neither treat this project as an afterthought, giving the material as much care as if it were their own. It isn’t forward-thinking, either, though the tight-knit kinetic spirit they display, steaming with vital ardor, makes for a uniformly satisfying listen.
It’s tense throughout, but it’s also endearingly frisky, and the poppiest moments have a tendency of landing at just the right time to stave off any potential noise-rock monotony.
They don't even sound like they're having fun: the bummer attitude was a given, but neither is inspired to go beyond their own sonic boundaries, nor is there any sign of friendly one-upmanship, no indication that a truly great idea from these sessions wouldn't be tucked away for private usage.
It’s meh. Can’t really tell who does more of the heavy lifting here but either way it doesn’t do much for the album as a whole getting both artists together.
I love this album front to back. they are a fucking unit writing together, love how they both do some good cop bad cop vocals (nathan screams a lot on this one). My favorite part is how it is very resemblant of sonic youth on many songs regarding guitar tone. and it gets kinda shoegazy too. overall just an amazing album in my opinion and highly underrated and thrown under the bus. i think its basically perfect. if people stopped looking for artists to try and one-up themselves and rather just ... read more
