Her willingness to own every step and misstep, and to show her audience how the rough times helped her become the woman she is, makes Confident a surprisingly compelling listen.

Entertainment Weekly

Confident ... bursts with titanic melodies from songwriters like Max Martin and Ryan Tedder, and the 23-year-old’s unstoppable vocal power imbues these songs with an exciting rock & roll edge.

80
AllMusic

The cumulative result is a messy, colorful modern pop record that is greater than the sum of its parts.

75
A.V. Club

Confident is an impressive album by a pop star who knows what she wants—and also knows exactly how to get there.

Rolling Stone
Ex-Disney star builds on "Cool for the Summer" with a strong, sleek album.
60
NME

Ultimately 'Confident' feels a bit relentless.

60
The Guardian

While some of tracks abound with self-assurance that would do credit to Miley Cyrus, others show the uncertainty underlying the big-voiced swagger, and it’s these flaws that make the album.

60
Spectrum Culture

Yeah, Confident has issues, but when a chart-topping pop record is dripping with sincerity, it has to be called a success.

50
Slant Magazine

Lovato mistakes the ability to cram as many syllables as possible into each word with virtuosity. And the album likewise mistakes overwrought for confident.

Evening Standard
Former Disney Channel star amps it up on album five, but is more at home with the ballads.

While ‘Stone Cold’ May be one of the best relevant Pop songs to date, this album is far from that title. It lacks originality and reeks of Copy/Paste-Popularity.

Although Tell Me You Love Me is Demi's most cohesive work, it's Confident that brings me back to the singer's discography, it has a certain beauty that makes it addictive and one of the singer's most sincere bodies of work. Firstly we have the ballads "Stone Cold" and "Father" that are well placed on the album and are both one of the best songs by the singer, demonstrating a gigantic passion and delivery. If "Kingdom Come" and "Waitin For You" were ... read more

What even are those beat drops.. Cool for the summer kind of defined the summer of 2015 for me its very nostalgic and i actually anticipated this record and i also loved it which is very weird considering the fact that this album is actually a mess

First of all a side note: Some of the comments here are so unnecessary and unserious. Yeah it's still not her best album but to bash it is really just hatred towards her and nothing else. At least if you're gonna be not so pleasant because you don't like it, at least be reasonable and not hateful.

Demi Lovato's fifth coming sticked to the album title. But even a confident person has its flaws. Of all the album, this one is very clear she's thirsty - not in an obsessive way - for that ... read more

This marks a significant shift for the former Disney star, building on the success of 'Cool for the Summer' with a strong, sleek album. While Lovato has often been overshadowed by her powerhouse vocals, this 2015 release brings her to the forefront. It's not an experimental album, nor does it make grand statements, but it lives up to its title—confident, aggressive, and sexy. The highlights showcase her strength as a belter, and even the lower points, particularly the ballads and ... read more
