Whether Somethin’ ‘Bout Kreay holds any worth for you is dependent on how tolerable you find Kreayshawn’s deliberately bratty, obnoxious vocal style, midway between a cartoon character and a street urchin.

It is the preponderance of bland dance tracks ... lacking the wit of her previous singles, which consign this debut to a failure.

It’s not a very good listen, but it’s kind of fun to watch someone be so free.

Somethin’ Bout Kreay isn’t remarkable enough to justify all the attention, nor is it the total trainwreck that detractors were anticipating.

These are dance songs so strident that no one could ever hope to move to them, pop songs so thin that no one could choose lines worth singing along to, rap verses so fumbly that practically anyone could rewrite them and make them better.

Personality has always trumped talent in the Kreayshawn formula, but Somethin ’Bout Kreay is a testament to the inadequacy of that approach, particularly when that persona is built on a foundation of puffed-up, “I don’t give a shit” shamelessness.
