It is tense and dramatic, with variations of piano constituting the bedrock of the album and Meek rapping passionately even by his own standards.

In focusing on the company line more than the striking talent and affecting heart of Meek Mill’s rap tales, Dreams and Nightmares is a missed opportunity.

If Meek wants to maximize his potential, he’ll have to step out from his boss’ (er, bawse’s) shadow and further develop his own identity.

Sober to a fault, Dreams And Nightmares is the respectable debut he felt obligated to make, not the enthralling album he’s already proved himself capable of making.
