Night Fiction does feel like a fully realized reflection of its creator’s mercurial disposition.

AllMusic

Nugent may not distinguish himself from his influences on Night Vision, but, like fellow guitar slinger Ryley Walker, he couldn't care less. He's only interested in playing the music he likes and growing from what he learns in doing so. In the process, we get a killer rock & roll album.

Under The Radar

The overarching mood is generally peaceable enough to act as a tonic for hangovers, but mind massaging as the album's warmth is, the pejoratives that tend to come with this territory (dad rock, indie comfort food, etc.) simply don't apply.

Even if his voice doesn't hit all of the right notes, there's an appealing warmth and conviction to his singing.

Tiny Mix Tapes

Night Fiction is about finding new ways to speak, and Nugent pursues this ambitiously, utilizing his strengths as an introspective, lyrical guitar player and an increasingly competent bandleader.

PopMatters
The recordings have a live and dirty feel to them, which makes them endearing and easy to cosy up to on the phonograph, even if the songwriting doesn’t always warrant a close headphone listen.

Songwriter from Dublin, the songs flow like a jam session with closed eyes atmosphere. The favorite songs are Nightlife; Things Don't Change That Fast; Lucy (instrumental).

I believe the album would be better instrumentally, honestly. Favorite song: "Lost Your Way"
