This record is fun in a way that Flying Lotus records choose not to be and satisfying in a way that most of his peers' fail to be.
The fluidity of Ellison’s production work is everywhere throughout Captain Murphy’s first mixtape release, Duality, garnished with the same seamless style of FlyLo’s songs, only with more morphing soundscapes than individual tracks.
Flying Lotus has never been one to fit in with the crowd, and anyone who's heard even the littlest of his material would be able to tell of that. This tape further proves why Flying Lotus is one of the greatest artists of all time. Flylo goes under the rap moniker Captain Murphy to create what feels like an electronic, horrorcore tribute to Madvillain and Quasimoto. Murphy's rapping is similar to that of Earl and DOOM's style with multiple syllable rhyming and abstract lyricism with a sense of dark humor.
