Though long at 18 tracks, King's still got plenty of heavyweight hits.
When T.I. is on, he’s really, really on, and, at several points, King lives up to its own hyperbole. It’s just that those points correspond precisely to the places where T.I. is actually talking about how great he is.
With King he further solidifies himself as a star in the industry who is capable of making songs with substance.
King lacks an overall cohesiveness or direction.
Before T.I. became a stick in the mud who makes every situation he's in slightly more awkward because he's so damn out of touch, he used to be a helluva artist! King is a testament to this, showcasing him alongside a lot of anthemic, celebratory production that makes his intentions seem that much more wide-reaching, bigger. Alright so, T.I, a dominant figure in rap and especially in the trap scene, was untouchable in his prime. Trap Muzik and this are so good with T.I basically birthing the genre. The south always has dope rappers and T.I is one of them. No bad songs, although some songs lack the quality of the best tracks but it's fine. If you want a really nice trap album, with nice production, dope features and a hard core sound, this is the one for you.
What I saw before listening to this album is that it is the most critically acclaimed album of his. I don't think "King" is that album. It's good, nothing revolutionary but stable in his discography. "King" is too long, materialistic and not so diverse in its sound. It is saved by its good production.
Holyyy this is underrated
I know a lot of people call Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, and A$AP the pioneers of trap (which they are), but T.I. been doing it 10 years before. Every song here can either hype up your new bench PR or make you contemplate life during a drinking session. This deserves to be up there with Rodeo as the greatest trap albums of all time.
