It's their trademark boisterous hyper-melodies ... that will have you involuntarily humming their praises for weeks (months!) to come.
What sets 'Twin Cinema' apart from the gropus first two albums is the overwhelming feeling that it’s no longer just Newman and Case who run the show. Each band member’s contribution is just as important the next, and everyone gets the chance to show their wares.
The songs on Twin Cinema are simply of a higher caliber than anything the Pornos' individual members can create by themselves or had created together before.
Best (and nearly perfect) when taken two or three songs at a time, as an entire album, Twin Cinema overstays its welcome. It's simply too much of a good thing.
The slickly produced Twin Cinema tweaks the formula to include subdued moments, climactic codas and fully unified vocals, elevating the band’s ideas to complete cohesion and transcending its previous output.
By turns darker and more challenging than 2003's dazzling Electric Version.
It's speaker-blowingly brilliant.
In short, it's no Mass Romantic, but it will do quite nicely.
The Pornos have always had a flair for the theatrical, but in Twin Cinema their songs rise to new heights of opera-style grandiosity.
wasn't expecting something so poppy and uplifting
gotta love the use of the different voices, great chemistry between them, male and female, they bring a lot of wholesomeness, charm and dynamism
apart from that and a few instrumental highlights (use of the horns on Stacked Crooked for example) I didn't find anything too outstanding about this album
don't know if it has someting to do with the mixing or the recording but it sounds like most of it lacks some vibrancy and depth to make these ... read more
The energy here is in droves, and it really carries this album wonderfully. A few instrumentals lack a bite that they need, but it’s a small complaint of an otherwise super fun album.
Standout: The Bleeding heart show
Favs: Falling through your clothes, Star bodies, Broken beads, Sing me Spanish Techno, Use it, The Bones of an Idle
Least fav: The Jessica Numbers
Although Twin Cinema is quite front heavy as in most of the standout tracks are up to Sing Me Spanish Techno, i do find that the last 6 songs tend to get over hated and are really under appriecated especially Three Or Four and Streets Of Fire, but all in all a great power pop record with some great lyrics and different styles keeping it engaging and although it can be argued that Twin Cinema doesn't push any boundaries they execute it well enough for it to be highly enjoyable.

Every time I come back to this album I'm once again reminded why this is almost unanimously considered the NPs best album: it's absolutely phenomenal. The first nine songs on this album is my favorite longish stretch of songs on any album, ever. To have nine songs that are each amazing in their own right but in such different ways is pretty remarkable. You have the quintessential NPs power pop songs such as Use It and Jessica Numbers, beautiful Neko songs in the form of Bones of an Idol and ... read more
Up until this point, there's been one consistent issue with all three of their first records, and that they feel very front-loaded. However, this definitely has the best batch of back songs of all their albums up to this point.
Highlights: Twin Cinema, The Bones of an Idol, Use It, The Bleeding Heart Show, These Are the Fables, Sing Me Spanish Techno, Falling Through Your Clothes, Streets of Fire, Stacked Crooked
I'm probably this albums #1 fan, mainly because i think it's just so easy to enjoy. and while it might just be a solid, fun indie pop/rock record, i appreciate the tranquility in not trying to be more than that
