Madvillainy still holds up today as one of, if not, the greatest hip hop collaboration albums of all time. This is them at the peak of their talents with DOOM's impressive bars and abstract lyrics fused with Madlib's ingenious production style. It's a humorously sinister beast of an album that just continues to display the perfection of the chemistry between these two artists.

Madvillainy is for me the best hip hop album of all time. It's the culmination of abstract and experimental hip hop, a twenty-two track journey that never becomes tiring in any way, and just gets more invigorating and compelling instead. MF Doom's very easy-going delivery here fits Madlib's production like a glove, and MF Doom comes through as an incredible lyricist and an incredibly interesting figure in this album. There isn't an album quite like this one, and it's the only perfect hip hop ... read more

I think Madvillainy captures the child in everyone who listens to it. The child is almost uncontainable.. imaginations run wild, and that's exactly what happens within the depths of the wonders and lyricism of Madvillainy. The dreams and fears of a child are drawn up in huge clouds and one is able to reach them through the love of this album. Several intangible and abstract concepts are illustrated within this cartoon-aesthetic masterpiece, from good vs. evil, to the different meanings of being ... read more

It is fantastic to just listen to this album every time. It seems like there is so much to discover in these really small vignettes that one could get lost in the tracklist no matter how many times you listen to it. MF Doom and Madlib have categorized themselves as two of the most impressive minds in hip-hop history in their respective careers, but it's with Madvillainy that they achieved supremacy. Madlib's inventive production backs up Doom's fantastic lyricism (with some of the best rap ... read more

The holy grail of underground hip-hop, MF DOOM and Madlib crafted not only my top 5 favourite album of all time but the best hip-hop album i ever listen to from start to finish. This was the pinnacle of MF DOOM and Madlib work and of course a game-changer of the hip-hop landscape. With MF DOOM abstract sharp bars and Madlib inventive jazzy production, this would no doubtfully was consider the best collaboration hip-hop album of all time. With taking a comic book concept of Madvillainy, the two ... read more

Madvillainy is a work of art crafted by two specialists working at the height of their powers. You'd be hard-pressed to find an album that more accurately captures a vision of two artists going into a project than this. Never before have I come across an album where the production work is so eclectic and vivid but also so tight and purposeful, giving way to DOOM to craft short but hilarious and dense vignettes through his lyricism. Madlib and DOOM manage to transport the listener to an ... read more

The first time I listened to this album I thought the MF Doom's flow was a little one dimensional and the short tracks didn't allow any idea to flesh out completely. But the more I listened to this, the more everything started to make sense. Now, I realize the shorter length allows Doom and Madlib to explore a greater amount of ideas in a more rapid fire type of manner. Madlib's production is absolutely stellar and Doom's flow, although quite repetitive, is so precise and smooth. There is ... read more

I think Stones Throw's name was really made with this record and this has been a record that I have held for quite some time now because there is no Hip Hop album like it that I can just really let play without skipping besides MBDTF. This piece is MF DOOM at his best just absolutely stripping down lyrically these ever so smooth and rambunctious beats from Madlib who made majority of this shit in a hotel in Brazil. I would say this will stand for quite some time in Hip Hop not just ... read more

In my opinion, this is Dumile's greatest project. The collaboration between DOOM and Madlib stays strong with this release: incredible production with the same incredible lyrical ingenuity from DOOM. This record is easily the greatest hip-hop album of the '00s and definitely in the top 10 of all time for that genre. Truly a work of art.

An unconventional Hip-Hop album, Madvillainy is one of the most innovative albums of the 2000's. A super-hero collaboration from MC MF DOOM and producer Madlib, Madvillain is one of the most creative Hip Hop albums of it's time, straying from mainstream sound to it's own unique style.

This is singlehandedly my favorite album of all time. Not only is it straight bars on behalf of DOOM, but the beats Madlib cooks up just emphasize the supervillain theme of the album. This album takes me to another world whenever I listen to it, and for that it gets a 10.

That's what you get when you mix great MC and great producer - both in top form - together. Madvillainy is a definition of a great hip-hop album. It's clever, it's witty, Madlib's production is cohesive, but varied at the same time and Doom's rhymes are doper than ever. Truly amazing.

One of my favorite ever rap records. The production and rapping converge more perfectly here than on almost any other rap album I can think of. DOOM is also one of my favorite ever rappers, and this is him at his best. The bars are endlessly dense and touch an a ton of subjects, from typical rap brags to psych-friendly philosophizing to cartoonish violence. Madlib's beats, of course, are equally responsible for Madvillainy's greatness, built off simple, yet rhythmically complex, jazz loops that ... read more

This is one of my favorite albums of all time. The super-villain persona of MF Doom and Madlib is Madvillain and they blew me away. I love every single song on this album and the beats are amazing. Doom's lyricism is on point throughout and I can't think of anything to make this album better. I believe that a perfect album does not exist, but this is pretty much as close as it gets.
