Queens of the Stone Age's debut album brings in all of the potential of following releases, and while Josh Homme and company come through with an album that isn't without its flaws, it's still quite the solid and overwhelming debut. Memorable performances --both instrumentally and vocally-- and well-written tracks make for some highly entertaining and electrifying alternative / stoner rock that also makes for one of the best albums that came out of that scene.

Having listened to this 9 times, I truly believe its not a good record. It doesn't have many flaws but it has two basic ones: first off, its underwritten and second is that certain tracks are quite longer than they should have been. There are no tracks for me that are true standouts but there are good ones. Those are If only, you would know, how to handle a rope, mexicola and you can't quit me baby. The rest are not worth one's time in my opinion.

The first step of Kyuss' well groomed younger brother. More rock and less stoner...
