Opposites is by no means perfect – with songs such as Pocket and Woo Woo no better than filler – but it will provide plenty more material for the headline slots that inevitably await the band this summer.
Fans of Biffy Clyro will dive headlong into these 20 new songs and embrace them as feverishly as anything the band have previously released, but that’s not to say that this record isn’t without its flaws.
The biggest and most obvious problem with Opposites is that it has neither the ambition nor the creative variety to fill its two discs - it simply didn’t need to be this long.
Fantastic showing from Scotland's Biffy Clyro. A double album that follows a loose concept, but that's not entirely why I think this album succeeds. It's a varied set of songs that encompass all kinds of alt rock, and despite the 22 songs it never feels bloated or overstated.
Ah the double album. As with many double albums it's roo long and bloated and suffers from a few poorer tracks. This could have been a really good 12 / 13 track album. Sound wise it's very similar to Only Revolutions. The album starts well, in fact both sides do but overall let down by tracks like The Fog and Woo Woo. Still worth a listen as plenty of good in there.

Honestly, I used to love this album to bits, but it's worn down for me. After a while you start to see the cracks in the seams, and here, there are quite a few. I won't dispute this isn't a good album, but it isn't Biffy's best, probably not even top 3, maybe top 5. This double album may I remind you, has it's ups and downs, some high highs, some low lows. Let's start positive, the album's openers, one is fantastic at setting the album's mood, the other is just a great song. Different people, ... read more
Opposites feels almost like the sequel to Only Revolutions. There's just something about the empty plain with an object blowing in the wind, with Only Revolutions having two people stood in a field with 2 parachutes. And having the tree on this album doing the same thing. I don't think it's as good as Only Revolutions and it is pretty bloated. I shall say, the first half is definitely better than the second half. But there's still plenty of quality here for sure.

This dragged on, EXTREMELY long. Like insanely long, most of the tracks were filler and boring, only gave this a chance because Modern Magic Formula is one of my favorite songs ever.
If there's one band that can make well over an hour of alternative rock feel fresh throughout, it's Biffy Clyro.
There's an awesome variety of genres on display here. From the monsterous opener "Different People", to the pop rock of "Black Chandelier" and "Biblical", to the quirky and heavy "Little Hospitals", there's plenty to enjoy.
