Kamaiyah more than makes up for a lack of variety in delivery and intricate wordplay, with intense Missy Elliott-level confidence on the mic, pairing perfectly with bass-heavy and synth-saturated beats built specifically for blaring from a car on the way to chill with friends at the beach.

The Line of Best Fit

A Good Night in the Ghetto is an outstanding listen for so many reasons. It’s smart, it’s catchy and it even manages to successfully reclaim the word ‘hoochie’.

Kamaiyah stands out from her peers ... with her appealingly natural presence. Her voice sounds as unaffected and assured singing as it does rapping, and she writes big hooks.

Really nothing special at all. Production is pretty boring, but after all, this is a mixtape whose main purpose is to showcase Kamaiyah's skills as an MC. And although she does have personality, most of the lyrics on here consist of one vapid party-rap cliche after another. I feel like Kamaiyah could potentially be an interesting MC on her debut full-length, but first, she needs to ditch the bottle and pick up the pen.

Kamaiyah's uninteresting voice combined with very basic production leaves me with a forgettable mixtape with very few tracks I'd go back to. There are more than a few catchy moments here which keep it from being totally mediocre, along with Kamaiyah doing more than a boring monotone flow here and there. The lyrics could also be a lot better. It's mixtape quality which is totally fine, so I can only hope that a commercial release would bring out more in Kamaiyah.
