Homosapien at its best creates a refreshing sense of vitality in a genre often defined by its synthetic nature.
It’s terrific nonetheless, a coiling gothica sci-fi soundtrack that cocoons Richard Pike’s echo-soaked vocal amid pulsing, binary-code electronics.
It’s a shame that PVT further amplify the vocal lines throughout Homosapien, but without the necessary leap forward in lyricism and melody to justify the approach.
Homosapien doesn’t possess quite the same spirit as Church With No Magic but is certainly a surefooted step somewhere. We just don’t quite know where yet.
Compared to their past work, it's almost as if Homosapien is some new band's debut album, and first albums have a tendency to be derivative.
