The Glow Pt. 2 ... captures the sea, the sky, and the mountains in a sonic panorama that seems to live without beginning or end. A sprawling, swirling composition that is both as varied and as consistent as the landscape itself, The Glow Pt. 2 exceeds even its predecessor in capturing the simultaneous wrath and fragility of nature.

AllMusic

Expansive yet accessible, indulgent yet unpretentious, The Glow, Pt. 2 redefines the Microphones' fascinatingly contradictory music.

It’s architecturally stunning on the large scale – careening from silence to squally noise to bouncing headphone-oriented stereo moments to odd, reeling pop-waltzes in a glorious depiction of all of nature’s fickle, freckled life. And in its small, intimate inflections it also glows with an incredible vitality.

Consequence of Sound

What ultimately makes The Glow Pt. 2 so relatable even in the midst of its impenetrable couplets is Elverum’s dedication to recovery.

An essential alternative rock album. The guitar work from The Microphones is absolutely stunning, and it varies from slow and soft to fast paced. The main complaint I have about this album is that the lyricist kept a stagnant tone through a large majority of the album, and I tend to lose focus when that happens. The lyrics themselves were very interesting, dealing with subjects like loneliness and love, with a unique spin on some rehashed and overused topics. I appreciate The Glow Pt. 2, ... read more

What a special album this is. I could listen to this all day really, and it never gets boring. Elverum makes such relaxing music, and when I feel like kicking shit up a notch, I'll just listen to Samurai Sword or I Felt My Size. It's good for any mood, and it truly cheers me up each time I listen to it.

I'm a clinically depressed boy and this album makes me feel like it's okay to think about my sometimes alluring death wish of being mauled to death by a bear during a freezing cold Canadian winter.

There are some real gems on this album, at the same time there were a few songs that I didn't think were too good. Maybe I need to give this another listen.

Favorite tracks: Headless Horseman, The Mansion, I Felt Your Shape

Edit: Definitely a grower. I like this album a lot.

Inexplicably good. Phil Elverum's finest work- it is incredibly rough and scratched, but its lo-fi feelings are what make this so impressive. The album is very personal–with many of its tracks being about Phil–and it has perfect lyrics to accompany the exquisite sounds. This album is one of the greatest gifts we've had in the 21st century.
