Uneven though sometimes enjoyable, Reincarnated is surprisingly better than expected.
His immersion in Rastafarianism has produced a middling album, at best. But given his talents and charisma, it’s easy to see him eventually successfully merging his spirituality with the business of making music.
His charm and sincerity carry these merely good and midtempo numbers on an album that's got plenty of them, and while Reincarnated is no home run, it's no great embarrassment, either

It's actually good. This modern production is FAR better than what Snoop has been doing on his last few records. Instead of those tacky, cheap EDM beats, the somewhat half-baked reggae aesthetic is FUN. This is definitely a comeback for Snoop, especially after 2 lame albums in a row. Thank god for this. In fact, can Snoop Lion stay?
Snoop Dogg's tenacity has to be admired. It's fascinating that he would change his name (one of the most iconic in hip-hop) and pull a genre switch so late in his career. If only the music were as fascinating as the ideas surrounding it. The music isn't bad music, really. The writing and lyrical themes aren't even that bad. They're par for the course these days.
