All My Relations isn’t a replacement for a brand new Lightning Bolt album, the last one of which dropped in 2009, but it scratches many of those itches, while also fully justifying existence on its own terms.
Uncanny precision and stunning complexity shine through in every song, where more obscured recordings could sometimes lead to the listener just hearing fast, somewhat tribal drumming.
All My Relations makes a few nods to conventional songwriting, but, really, it’s just as dense and repetitive as anything the drummer has ever put out.
Clarity (albeit relative) sounds surprisingly good on Chippendale, and one has to wonder how far he’ll continue to push his tribal weirdness in this direction.
All My Relations will confound you beyond belief like a big bully smashing your rubix cube to pieces when you're one block away from solving it.
not really feeling this one sorry :(
