At nearly 70 minutes, Sky Burial is a massive stylistic crucible where unlikely influences and aspirations bleed and blur into one another.
If ever a record matched the meaning of the title bestowed upon it, this is it. Sky Burial leaves your earthly remains flayed for the carrion to feast and frees your soul.
Ambient and atmospheric metal in the vein of Agalloch always gets me going. Add a splash of doom and gloom, and I'm in. It's not something I'm always game for, but when the mood strikes, I'm game. Sky Burial hits almost all the right metal pleasure centers for me. It's moody, dark, and windy, in a way. It's a good album, although as far as pacing and sequence, it's not perfect. Still, very listenable and enjoyable.
