While it’s not likely to set the world on fire, dig beneath the pastel sheen and Amygdala is uncommonly engrossing for a techno album.

Beats Per Minute

The record is unshowy on the surface but layered deeply with revelatory spots of pure genius. Nothing here is overtly thrilling but ultimately the record is a real joy to listen to.

Slowly sifting through music this immersive and hypnotic, though, is a pleasure in itself, and discovering those flourishes just adds another level of fulfilment on top of an already multi-faceted and uniquely satisfying piece of work.

AllMusic

He adds frilly ornamentation -- sprightly mallets, daffy strings -- to stern rhythms and ominous textures, rubberizes everything, and makes it sound natural and elegant.

SPIN

Amygdala is the most fearless and most accomplished thing he's ever made: a smorgasbord of sonic possibility, a new idea around every corner, each vibrantly alive in a wide sound field.

Drowned in Sound

Amygdala is a thoroughly immersive album, possessing so many layers that it seems to change upon each listen.

I love 'Knock Knock,' I think it is inventive and diverse and exciting. 'Amygdala' is a personal favorite album of all time. It is like having an affair with someone who knows everything about music. The songs are emotive, silly, punchy, and relatable. It is melancholic but expansive; the melodic lines give me hope. An album that plays with nostalgia as an emotive tool, Dj Koze finds a sweet spot between the electronic reverie he is so good at and the more accessible themes of isolation and ... read more
