A listening experience that trades in the distant, narrative-driven opaqueness of Admiral Fell Promises and Among the Leaves for a newfound inclusivity that suits both parties.

At first glance, a collaboration doesn’t appear obvious, but it ends up being tremendously worthwhile.

Perils from the Sea may not be a seamless collaboration, but neither artist has sounded so purposeful in his reverie in years.

Consequence of Sound

If you’re at all familiar with Kozelek’s work with Sun Kil Moon (or his earlier work with Red House Painters), or familiar with Lavalle’s records as Album Leaf, Perils From the Sea offers exactly zero surprises.

Hearing Mark over these folktronica instrumentals is really something. It works very well here, these two have excellent chemistry!

One of the most beautiful, touching and mesmerizing folktronica/slowcore albums ever made
Mark's writing and performances are some of his best and most personal, and Lavalle's downtempo style production compliments them very well and it still goes hard to this day

Would be a 10 if it wasn't exceedingly boring to sit through, even though it's really easy to get lost in as it goes on
Light to a Solid 9 overall, kind of a ... read more

It can get a bit annoying at some parts where the storytelling just keeps on going in the same tempo over and over.

Needs a relisten. Kozelek is one of the most captivating songwriters he just consistently tells stories in the most homely way. The production is a bit simplistic to me, but the lyrical content is stellar.
