Lush synths, snappy basslines and a vocal delivery filled with passion and feeling. It is a somewhat derivitive and one note experience, but a highly enjoyable one.

Good vibe

Highly professional and polished propulsive pop that's elevated by Herring's impassioned vocal delivery - just about everything you'd want from an indie pop record in 2017 is present and correct here.

It's a fun synth pop record that sounds absolutely gorgeous. I just wish that they would bring some variety to the tracklist as the LP suffers from sounding repetitive quickly. Other than that it's a fun listen and a vibe for sure.

Imagine thinking of anything to say about a Future Islands album other than the fact it is a Future Islands album. Can't relate. I guess if you are into the New Romantics, this will be a 10/10 for you.

SONGS I'D RECOMMEND: ALADDIN, RAN, BEAUTY OF THE ROAD

SONGS TO AVOID: ...

THE BEST TRACK (IMO): ALADDIN

79

An Album with some of their best tracks in their discography that fizzles out at the back end with underwhelming tunes like Candles, Shadows and Black Rose.

Favorite Tracks: Time on Her Side, Ran, Through the roses, Ancient Water, Day Glow Fire

Se mantienen en la atmósfera de su anterior álbum, aunque la calidad podría considerarse algo inferior.

Synthpop ADDICTIVE

I really tried to find something remotely appealing about this record but I guess it's not my cup of tea. The combination between the glossy production and Herring's vocals is just so weird to me, like all the effects they do to his voice don't make it sound better at all. I had a realization by the end of the record and is that almost all of the songs here have the same structure, the same melody, the same guitar progression and the same ending... like really? Couldn't they get a bit more ... read more

This synthpop adventure was rather wayward and watered down, especially with the rather unpleasant vocals, but it still had pleasurable moments through steady harmonic flow and constant energy to make the experience worthwhile. My Score: 119/180 (Good) = 66/100

Pretentious dance pop that sounds the same as the last lp.

Proof that you don't need to change up your sound every record you're putting out as some people might expect you to do. Future Islands found their ideal sound on their last album and are perfecting it on this one, resulting in a cohesive album filled with solid tracks that could all easily have been lead singles.

Fav tracks: Alladin, Ran, Cave, North Star, Day Glow Fire

Least fav tracks: Shadows

Nothing new here, a new chapter on the same sound, its everything expected and nothing more.

Although Future Islands did not exactly progress on their sound, the band still released a solid album that has 4-5 songs you can definitely listen to at any time. It's still got the same catchy and dancey feel as Singles, and switches back and forth between a synthpop/rock style that's infectious.
