HNDRXX provides a view into a modern rock star indulging in a side of himself that’s more thoughtful and dare one say, honest.
HNDRXX is Future at his most inventive, or at least the most inventive he’s been in a while. While his most definitive project remains 2015’s Dirty Sprite 2 for its balance of Future’s innate melodic sense and especially effective trap records, HNDRXX comes in as a close second.
When digested with Future, HNDRXX shows listeners what lies beneath the veneer and posturing, a brief look at the struggles one man must face when the party ends.
HNDRXX is a reminder that no matter how hard he tries to shun his reputation as a hitmaker, Future remains one of the most reliable acts in mainstream music.
Over a well-played hand of wistful, bright-eyed and reflective beats, HNDRXX strikes a near-perfect balance between a man still licking his wounds and a man emerging from a long, dark night.
The way HNDRXX rocks back and forth between tenderness and solipsistic rage is jarring.
Clearly, Future doesn't need to sing urban pop love tunes for mass appeal anymore. Still, the warmth he displays on Hndrxx is striking.
While Future's other recent album release had some moments to crow about, HNDRXX is a much different and far more enthralling piece of work.
Wow an entire album of Jimi Hendrix cover songs? Future's interpretations are brilliant, replacing boring terms like "foxy lady" with "your bitch". What made it work for me was the same ridiculous amount of subtextual satanism as Hendrix.
Better then self-titled in every way possible. Despite the similar run times, Future's brighter, more accessible and vibier style on HNDRXX is such an easier, more enjoyable listen. It's still a 70-80ish minute Future record, so it's never gonna be all that amazing, but tracks like My Collection, Damage, Incredible, Hallucinating, and Turn On Me all make it a worthwhile endeavor in the end.
RATING: 80.8/100
As a pop rap album from a rapper like Future, this is in the upper tier for sure.
Released just week after FUTURE, which wasn't anything much better than a mixed bag of bangers and ok songs, HNDRXX tho has a specific theme and purpose.
Just about everything on this album is melodic or pop rap oriented, maybe to appeal to a wider audience, because nearly everyone that doesn't have english as their first language likes melodic joints.
Not a bad melodic rap album, every songs ... read more
this album is so well produced and i love future getting out his comfort zone even if only a little bit
there are some of Future's best songs here but also a lot of misses. This R&B sound really doesn't fit him
