If you’re likely to spend your summer either on a road trip or wishing you were on a road trip, here’s your summer album.
The band's mastery of various styles, moods, and sounds here is impressive, and while it bodes well for future albums, it also means that Hooded Fang have arrived as one of the most exciting indie rock/pop bands around in 2013.
It’s a half-hour packed with ideas and wonky ambition.
Gravez will compel you, forcing you to look at your own mortality, and leave you feeling like you just saw a ghost.
Those who weren't blown away by their initial efforts are unlikely to be won over, but those who fell in love with Hooded Fang last year will find delight in Gravez.
Like Clinic or Mind Spiders, Hooded Fang perforates their darkest parts with music that laughs at itself. They don’t tell us to cheer up, but they do ask us to smile.
'Gravez' may be a worthy addition to Hooded Fang's growing repertoire, but it's devoid of any risks, or exploration of new musical territory that'd be required to create a treasurable piece of work.
Happy 10th, Gravez! Seems this album has fallen under the radar over the years.
Gravez is a solid, scrappy indie rocker that’s engaging throughout it's short 33 minute runtime.
There isn't a ton of variety on this album. It's like the band tapped into a particular sound and decided to extract as much out of it as possible. An album that tries to pretend like it's more fun than it actually is supposed to be. That isn't a bad thing, there's a few songs which seriously slap and try to embody psychedelic rock energy well enough, and the album is far from outstaying it's welcome, being only 30 minutes long, however, it is also one of those albums that are soon forgotten after hearing, especially for an active music listener like myself, but I will be returning to Hooded Fang as a whole someday.
