On The Hurry and The Harm, everything feels much more carefully crafted and well-thought-out than on some of his previous releases, so that every instrument has a very specific, and important, reason for being included.
But while ‘The Hurry And The Harm’ is by no means revolutionary ... in expanding City And Colour’s sound further into a fully flourished sound, Dallas Green has proved that he was right in his decision.
While imperfect, The Hurry and the Harm is a collection of songs still lightyears ahead of most popular artists played on both Canadian and American airwaves.
With the freedom to bring guests on board and some experience under his belt in this new-to-him genre, Green shows a new depth
Dallas telling me he wants everyone in California to die in a bushfire or an earthquake in the most crystalline voice like he was an angel sent from the above to deliver this message is both hilarious and terrifying.
One of my absolute favourites by City And Colour. Dallas crafts the most sentimental and honest tracks with his imaginative songwriting, with tracks like Of Space and Time and Death Song really emphasising his emotionally charged expression and delivery. I played this album constantly when it came out so it does hold a lot of nostalgic memories for me.
