Dan Bejar’s unjustly treated masterpiece, disrespected by fans as well as it’s creator. “A continuation of Destroyer’s rubies” appears to be the consensus surrounding this album and when understanding the context, does feel like a warranted comment. BAND OF THE WEEK: Album Thoughts #6
Out of all of Destroyer's less talked about records, this one is one of the best. It's also far more accessible than most of their work and has a nice array of styles borrowed from all of their prior albums. In comparison to their classic albums, this one is definitely lacking but its certainly not easy to follow a record like Rubies. Another remarkably good opening track from destroyer, keeping with notorious lightning and rubies preceding it. This album is just destroyer prancing through his own little bejarverse, letting us all witness the greatness. It feels like he’s on cruise control here, but when you’re at the beginning of a 15 year creative peak, it still results in a magnificent album.
