Pretty Much Amazing

Having briefly lost me with Mr. Wonderful, I’m glad to have Bronson back, especially if he keeps making quality projects like this one.

Blue Chips 7000 is a triumphant moment for Action Bronson the rapper, re-establishing his position as the court jester of Hip Hop.

Bronson has already released a few dozen songs like the one’s you’ll hear on Blue Chips 7000. But these new tracks are probably the strongest in his catalog—full of cheeky, relentless verses to match the energetic funk he’s best accompanied by—and the repetition feels strategic.

Rolling Stone

Working with a major label that clears samples is probably why Bronson and crew have opted out of some of the more audacious selections ... but a banquet of loop-based production still hits those old-school notes even without the postmodern twist. For his part, Bronson is still acrobatic with a bar.

What the overall set lacks in emotion or any semblance of rhymes that delve into Bronson's personal life or any social issues, it more than makes up for with straight-up bars.

At all times, Bronson's enthusiasm for nourishment, sexual exploits, professional sports references, and inhalants remains at a high level.
Consequence of Sound

In its name alone, Blue Chips 7000 is a regression that wants it both ways: an album that hopes people think it’s a mixtape. It’s completely risk-averse, designed to please his faithful because he’s not really convinced there’s anyone else.

The Needle Drop

Action Bronson continues to bring the humor, the flow, and the heart on Blue Chips 7000, but the album is pretty underdeveloped on the whole.

To be completely honest, I was expecting mixtape-quality material from Action Bronson here. I wasn't super thrilled with the singles and he seemed more focus on other ventures than he did on his music. But thankfully, the Queens MC delivered what is likely his best album yet. From the sample-heavy, abstract production to his ever so clever bars, Blue Chips 7000 shows Bronson at full strength, rarely slowing down until he asks to breathe.

Love many of the funky, jazzy beats. Action Bronson works best when he's a bit odd or reveals something personal between his swaggering lines. Enjoyed the project.
