Love Your Dum And Mad is certainly not an easy listen and demands close attention. But give yourself over to the close, fascinating world Shah inhabits and you will be utterly enthralled.
With influences ranging from the Bad Seeds to Maria Callas, Nadine Shah’s debut could easily be melodramatic. But ‘Love Your…’ is suffused with a quiet dignity too
For all of Dum and Mad's unebbing intensity-- it never gets overbearing, it retains a dynamism through Shah's magnetic voice-- she makes you want to stay in the darkness with her.
All of which adds up to both a staggeringly well thought-out eulogy, and a promising debut exhibition.
It’s the lightness and dexterity in Nadine’s voice and songwriting that means she has created an album of stories that will warm you and keep you company.
