There’s nobody out there making music like this. Nobody with this much vision, dare and confidence.

Pitchfork
Charli XCX’s latest mixtape is a vision of what pop music could be, the sound of an eclectic, hyperreal future where romantic love is fun but fucked and partying is an emotional refuge.

Consequence of Sound
By inflating pop music to its cartoonish extremes, Charli and her cohorts find something most artists don’t dare to look for: They find space between the boring and the uncomfortable, the pristine and the filthy, the sterile corporate origins of much radio pop, and the vibrant human spaces in which it’s consumed.

For better or for worse, Charli XCX is embracing maturity on her fourth mixtape ... And though she may not find what she’s looking for anytime soon, Charli XCX, on Pop 2, is at least looking down a new path.

NME
Charli’s second mixtape of the year isn’t just about proving she’s more than your average pop star, but about her settling into her role as innovator, celebrator, and curator supreme.

The Guardian

With adventurous ideas, noisy thrills and eclectic guests, Charli XCX shows that cheesy pop can be truly creative.

Led by Charli XCX on Pop 2, we catch a glimpse of electropop reaching adulthood.

In an era where even our best artists run the risk of selling their souls to the Spotify gods, Pop 2 is refreshing for its blasphemy.

While it lacks the polish of a major pop album, it's not dulled by the overthought conservatism that might bring with it.

POP 2 is perplexing throughout. Cuts to silence and haphazard switching of rhythm make it constantly disorientating. With the exception of the chart beckoning 'Out of My head' with Tove Lo, every track here has the structure of subverted pop destined for the decades beyond.

This mixtape has no higher purpose than to let its creators run wild, showcasing their prodigious talents with frequent moments of pop brilliance.

Pop 2 is another welcome collaboration between Charli XCX and the PC Music camp.

Wait “Track 10” is literally just “Blame it on your love” before it got the crazy catchy beat and the Lizzo feature. Idk what to make of that, but it does work well as a sad ending to this mixtape. Strange

So after loving Charli I decided to listen to Pop 2 again, one of the most iconic album covers of the 2010s. I really can’t say much more besides it sounds like the stepping stone to what Charli became. ESPECIALLY with the closer here, and the posse cut with ... read more

Charli XCX never ceases to amaze me when it comes to bringing many clever surprises, as she's proven to be highly capable to subvert pop music tropes and pushing boundaries, as proven with her acclaimed albums "Charli" and "how i'm feeling now".

Pop 2 is definitely no exception to that rule, showcasing that crazy, care-free hyperpop side in full form we all know and love from her. It's clear to see as to why this mixtape is regarded an important landmark in pop music with ... read more

After a falling out with her boyfriend and her long delayed third album being leaked, leading to it being entirely scrapped, needless to say Charli XCX was going through some shit. That vibe is in the air during the entire runtime of “Pop 2”, her second mixtape of 2017 that was created in two months, hoping to keep fans happy after an album they’ve waited two years for got completely erased. However, while I’m sure in the moment this was just an attempt to get music out ... read more

I don't think she reached her peak in terms of songwriting on this record but the production is still stellar and track 10 is top 5 Charli. I think this has my favourite features tho out of any Charli project.

Fav tracks: Out of My Head, Lucky, I Got It, Track 10
Least fav track: Porsche
