Windhand were poised as one of the year’s potential metal breakthroughs. But Soma sits still, paralyzed by the weight of a sound that’s too big for this promising band to manage, at least for now.
great doom stoner metal with big standout "woodbine" which was definitely my favorite. the vocals on here are very dreamy and reverb heavy which contribute to the psychedelic mood this album puts you in, and is a lighter track compared to how dark and heavy the atmosphere gets on here. I don't know how many tracks this album has; every song has the same rhythm, tone, progression and tempo they're interchangeable.
Listen, I don't mind if an album has kind of a same-y texture. Some of my favorite albums of all time have songs that all sound pretty similar to each other. But in those cases, there is some variation in tempo, or chord progression, or melody, or literally anything else.
