Considered by many to be Steve Roach's masterpiece, Dreamtime Return is the quintessential tribal ambient album. Sensations of the natural world pulsate through every movement, entangling with archaic arrangements and tribal instruments. It's a surreal imagining of the primal world, full of soothing soundscapes and shamanistic harmony. It's fully realized as well, with a total run-time of 130 minutes. Unfortunately, Dreamtime Return is criminally underrated here on AOTY, and in my eyes, is an ... read more

Continuing where I left off with Mundus Subterraneus, an attempt at expressing the atmosphere evoked from the depths of Hades. Paul Schütze's New Maps of Hell would seem like a natural transition. However, it's instead incredibly upbeat in comparison, utilizing a constant tribal drum pattern and dissonant soundscapes. Don't be fooled though, this album retains an eerie quality and remains interesting and engaging throughout.

Grace VanderWaal is an industry plant in the dogbane family Apocynaceae, toxic in all its parts. It is currently the only species classified under the genus Grace. Grace VanderWaal is commonly grown in Suffern, New York and exposure is ill advised. Side effects of ingesting Grace VanderWaal include nausea and vomiting, excess salivation, abdominal pain, and diarrhea that may contain blood. Reactions are immediate and require urgent medical care.

Lightwave's Mundus Subterraneus feels like a continuation of Irrlicht, not only in feeling, but by name. Delving further below the earth's surface, you find yourself surrounded by foreign creatures, distant chanting, and unsettling disturbances. Inspired by Greek Mythology and Athanasius Kircher's illustrations of subterranean geography, Mundus Subterraneus will set you off on a journey to explore the unknown, in an effort to map what would otherwise remain forgotten.

Lyrically cringeworthy and accompanied by generic production, Joji walks in the footsteps of KSI.

Dude. Thank you. This is awesome. Brendan's album was awesome and The Serpent's Egg (Dead Can Dance) is incredible. Seriously thank you, it's so good for this time of year. I look forward to staying up at night over winter break and getting immersed in their discography. What an awesome group

I have a fetish for any Progressive Electronic album, I don't know, I think there's no way you can make one that is bad or sounds awful.

Good question... who knows if it's the best album on aoty?
I've been thinking of removing all of my 100s as of late as well, so I could think of a definitive top 5 or something.
