Drake - More Life

Another huge pile of messy and glossy rap material from Drake, now inviting everyone, from Quavo to Giggs, to PARTYNEXTDOOR to Kanye (and hardly getting any good results out of those collaborations). There seems to be no real reason for this 'playlist' to exist, and even less reason for all the excruciating filler skits and boring tracks that permeate the release, extending it to really difficult 80 minutes of roll-around emptiness and obvious songwriting (if we can actually call it that). However, there is a considerable ammount of catchy tracks with some fine-quality beats on the first half of the album. The biggest surprise here is that the dancehall-infused tunes are actually the best-written ones, holding not only the best refrains, but also the most detailed instrumentals on the whole thing. There are also some beautiful atmospheric songs (4422) that seem a bit out-of-place, due to the incredibly messy structure of the album, but they still serve the purpose of adding at least a bit of life to this release. Seeing him delivering such a low-level sequence of albums/mixtapes makes it clearer by the minute he doesn't really know who he is as an artist anymore, nor does the canadian rapper seem to know what he truly wants to do, musically speaking. In the end, we have yet another terribly inconsistent (maybe even more than VIEWS) effort from Drake, who sounds each time more and more lost inside his own delusional world.

*Update: This album has much better ideas than VIEWS had, and even though most of the tracks containing those good ideas consist basically of pattern repetitions, More Life is way more entertaining and even effective as a listening experience (even as background music alone) than VIEWS was. Still, that doesn't redeem this "playlist" of the terrible moments on its second half, though.
