With John Mayer's debut being one of my favorite albums, I was more than a little disappointed to hear that John's second album was pretty mediocre. This album lacks the energy of Room For Squares and I really ended up missing the acoustic elements that were on that album. I think the writing is on the same level as his debut but I didn't find it as easy to buy into and enjoy. I had already heard Daughters and Clarity independent of the album and they are some of my fav songs from John. I'll add Bigger Than My Body, Something's Missing and Only Heart into the mix to complete the tally of the songs I really liked.
I don't know if the fact that I had already heard a good part of his debut by listening to the preceding EP has affected how much I was able to enjoy this. I ... read more
A bit of a major improvement over Room for Squares. But that’s not saying much to be honest. That being said, I enjoyed how much more up-tempo this album was mainly despite John’s C-tier Dave Matthews levels of songwriting being an issue for this album for me in certain spots. Even on the good songs, they’re not able to bother me that much but they do bug me a little. I also enjoyed how much Mayer is improving himself on the guitar as well. honestly to me only clarity stands out as the best song and other than that, there's not much else, but this album is still pretty good

Great album very underestimated don't forget one thing if sting, bbking, herbie hancock wanted to work with John it's that there is a good reason.
