Slightly overblown Euro-cabaret from Almond & his dependable Willing Sinners, but this collection of narrative vignettes was far more deserving of critical acclaim than it received. The level of musicianship and sophistication on display more than compensates for the melodrama and hubris which can threaten to overpower on occasion.
